Sometimes you are working for a long time on a project and nothing exciting happens. Even more probably, you are working on multiple projects at the same time. And since you can see some progress from day to day, there can be months of work, but only you know what you’re doing and how exciting it is.

But here and then comes a moment, when you finish a couple of these projects in a quite short time frame. And that exciting moment happened this week at ProteusNet.

In this week we released some interesting stuff (and it is only Thursday)! We made two big releases of our Hairpress and Webmarket HTML and WP themes. We (again) listened to the needs of our clients, so the especially big update was with the Hairpress, which now support very popular WPML and WooCommerce plugins. We fixed quite some issues on the Webmarket as well and made both themes even easier to install and setup as it was before. Everything using the WordPress best practices, sure 😉

The other big thing is … the new ProteusThemes website! We just lunched it today, Jaka had the design finished by October already, but there was not enough time + I really wanted to test out some new stuff on it, so we gained some amazing page-load performances. For the optimization fanatics reading this blog, here are some highlights:

  • development with Grunt & plugins, which take care for almost all aspects of modern workflow and optimization: SASS, autoprefixr, minification, concatenation, image optimization – that’s all automated, with live-reload,
  • the whole site is build using the Assemble – just awesome tool for static websites, powered with yaml data, so you can totally decouple the data and presentation, using Handlebars templating engine,
  • coded with mobile-first principle,
  • using RequireJS for the AMD JS modules – crazy stuff man :O
  • … and list goes on!

The final result is the light website that loads under 1s for me being in EU and server in US. Of course there is still the room for improvements, but I think we all (Marko and Menci also helped me on this site) learned a lot about the best techniques, so we can apply them on our customers projects and new themes.

The third thing is that my girlfriend Manca started to work with us at Tehnološki park LJ, helping me out with the company, but especially she is offering support for our clients, taking care for social media and most importantly takes care for our demo pages for ThemeForest.

We speeded up a development by at least 200% since Marko joined the company and I am really looking forward for everything that’s on TODO for this year!
